Keeping Carpet & Floors Clean During Winter

It is especially difficult to keep your carpets and hardwood floors clean during the winter months. This is mostly due to tracking in snow and salt from shoes or pets. Although it seems like a daunting task, it is reasonably easy to maintain your flooring with a few simple steps.

1) If you or your children are wearing snow boots, take the snow boots off before entering the house. There is usually enough room to leave them outside without being in the elements.

2) Use and maintain walk off mats. These are a fairly inexpensive solution to keeping your floors in good condition. The idea is to trap any soil and moisture on the walk off mat and keep it from spreading to the flooring.

3) Vacuum walk off mats frequently. These mats can only hold so much soil before it starts to track to other areas of the home. MAKE SURE THE MATS ARE 100% DRY BEFORE VACUUMING!!

4) Make sure everyone removes shoes when entering into the home. No matter how well you wipe your feet, there will still be some soil that gets tracked around. Keep a pair of slippers by the front door to change into.

5) Wipe down your pets paws before allowing them back into the home. Most of the time, they do not wipe their feet on the walk off mats.

These simple and easy steps will help you keep your flooring clean from outside soil.
