A New Belt = Better Performance

Annual vacuum cleaner service is highly recommended to retain maximum cleaning ability. Vacuum cleaners that use a rubber belt should have a new belt put on every 6 months to keep the brush moving at maximum speed. When the belt stretches, it greatly reduces the cleaning ability of the machine. When the nozzle of the vacuum touches the carpet, there is a great amount of force applied to the brush and needs a belt that is in good condition to rotate the brush.

New Filters = Better Performance and Cleaner Air

Just as important  as maintaining the belt, is keeping the filter system cleaned. The filters are what clean the dirty air before it is emitted back into the living area. Every time you use the vacuum cleaner, you are pushing dirty air through those filters. Using a vacuum cleaner that has dirty filters, greatly increases the amount of dirty air pushed back into the home. Just imagine all those tiny particulates bowing back into your home. Dirty filters will also lower the amount of suction the vacuum cleaner is able to produce. The vacuum needs to be able to move the air continuously in order to provide maximum suction. Not changing your filters regularly will reduce the vacuum cleaners cleaning ability and put excess strain on the motor itself, causing pre-mature motor failure.

Change Your Bag

Changing the bag in your vacuum cleaner regularly will provide better performance and a healthier vacuum. Vacuum bags can grow bacteria and should be changed every 3-4 weeks. This will also aid in the effectiveness of the vacuum cleaner. As fine dirt and dust are picked up, they will slowly clog the pours in the bag, greatly reducing the air flow through the bag. This results in a far less effective machine.
